B. at Harvard in 1897 and was admitted to the bar in Florida in 1889. He commenced the practise of law in Jacksonville, Florida and from 1890 until 1933 had a general practise in New York City. He was a director of International Inventions Corporation and a dirctor of Boy's Clubs of America, Inc. His clubs were: Harvard, Metropolitan, Union League, the Bedford Golf Club and the Bedford Tennis Club. In addition to being a lawyer he was an author, being the writer of various lectures on legal topics, and a capitalist. | 1874 | Elijah Bisbee was a highway surveyor and Constable of Pembroke from 1725 to 1730; also one of a committee to select a site for the Congregational Church on Drink River Road, Hanover, Mass.[A] An order passed by the General Court of Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1st session in 1736, states, "Empowering the town of Pembroke to survey and lay out 500 acres of land for a school in answer to a petition by [Elijah Bisby Esq.] in behalf of Pembroke. (Massachusetts House of Rep Records, Great and General Court.) The foregoing petition was presented by Elisha Bisbee 3d.[A] On 21 Dec 1743, Elijah Bisbe Jr., administrator of his father's estate, certifies to a probate judge an inventory of the estate completed the previous day in Plympton. The value of the estate was estimated at more than 506 pounds and included the following items: cash, wearing apparel, books and spectacles; armes, ammunition and razor; alley and homestead with building and fences; wood lot and cedar swamp; negro wench; horses and tackle; cattle and swines; grains and footstuffs; and various furniture, housewares, farm implements and tools.[B] Also on 21 December, 1743, Elijah's minor sons, Joseph and Benjamin, were placed under the guardianship of one Joshua Pearce of Pembroke, probably a relative of their mother.[C] On 27 Feb. 1748/9, older brother Reuben was appointed guardian for Joseph and Benjamin.[D] On 17 Dec. 1754, Reuben certifies that he has settled all accounts with Joshua Pearce, and has collected from him Joseph's and Benjamin's inheritance, amounting to "forty-five pounds seven shillings and six pence in cash, and also one bond from Elijah Bisbee (Jr.) he dated the sixth day of March anno domini 1744/5 conditioned for the payment of 137 pounds 7 shillings & 5 pense in good bills of the old tenner."[E] References: [A] Frank J. | 1876 | Elijah Wyatt Bisbee received his education in the public schools and for several years was a teacher in the vicinity of his native Weathersfield. He moved to Waitsfield, Vt. with his parents in 1836 and lived there until 1864 when he moved to Moretown where he bought the old Ephraim Pearce farm. In politics he was a Republican and was a member of the Congregational Curch. He was a butter and produce buyer for the firm of J> W. Merriam Co., Faneuil Hall Market, Boston. He was a Selectman of Moretown for several years and took an active interest in public afffairs. He was president of the Washington County Agricultrual Society and a trustee of Barre Academy in 1849. HE practised law in Moretown. In 1877 all his buildings were destroyed by a fire of incendiary origin. The perpetrator was caught and punished. --from Dewey Genealogy, by Louis M. Dewey, 1908. | 1879 | Elisha Bisbee Jr. lived in Hingham and was known as "Ensign Bisbee." In the will of Thomas King, an item reads: "To my daughter, Sarah Bisbey, the use and improvement of three acres of marsh land, up the river in Marshfield next to the 'Gravely Beach' there and so by upland side, during her natural life and the life of her husband." From the records, Marshfield General Court, this item: "Received and admitted as Freemen at ye 1st June 1689 General Court from Marshfield, Elisha Bisbey, Hopestill Bisbey..." Sixty eight others listed. Elisha and Mary Bisbey joined 60 others in signing a document pertaining to witchcraft as follows: "Hingham the 7th Feb. 1709-9. Where as we the underwritten have heard that there are scandalous reports of the widow Mahatabel Warren of Plymouth, we, knowing that she was brought up in the place, and in her younger time had been a person of great affliction, before she was married, and hath lived in this towne divers years in her widowhood and we never have had any suspition nor have ever heard that any amongst us have had the least suspition that ever she was guilty of the sin of being a witch or anything that may occation (sic) such suspition of her." An item from Plymouth County Records, 16 June, 1692, is as follows: "John Rogers was on a jury to lay out and remove highways in Marshfield, in their return they describe a way which ran near the houses of the three brothers and in the new way which said Rogers lately made, and so on over the Cover Creek by his house and so along by Frenche's tinnament and Henry Perry's house to the upper end of the field before said Perry's door, and then turning southwards along by the Cove Creek, downward as the old way leadeth by the house and so as the new way now lieth near to Joseph Rogers' fence and so on a line of Elisha Bisbee." | Bisbee, Ensign Elisha Jr (I757)

| 1880 | Elisha Bisbee was known as "Deacon." He granted a quit claim deed to John Geer in 1814 and other warranty deeds in 1820, 1825, 1850 and 1854. The 1820 US Census for Chesterfield, Mass. lists, "Elisha Bisbee; 1 m. < 10, 2 m. 10 - 16, 1 m. 25 < 45, 4 fem < 10, 1 fem 10 - 16, 1 fem. 26 - 45." Elisha Bisbee's will was made Jan. 27, 1858 and was probated 14 July 1860. His wife, Susan, and son, Osman, were name executors. He also bequeathed to his daughters, Mirona, Joanna Buck, Arvilla Robinson, Asenath Wetherill and Ursulla Tilden. The will was witnessed by Asahel and Eliza Burt Bisbee. | 1881 | Elisha Bisbee was known as "Esquire" and as "The Honest Lawyer." He practised in Pembroke; was a member of the General Court from Pembroke for the period 1725 to 1736. He died while still a member of the Court. When a member of the General Court, Elisha Bisbee was chairman of the Committee of the House on question of the Governor's salary, then a matter of controversy with the King and his ministers. While attending the Court in Boston in 1736 he was sick but was active enough to secure an appropriation for Province lands for the town of Pembroke "to enable them to keep a grammar school therein." Elisha Bisbee was one of the five Justices of Peace in Plymouth, Mass. 3 July 1734. He was said to be one of the best lawyers of his day. When a member of the General Court (1725-1736) Elisha Bisbee voted against the acceptance of His Majesty's Royal Explanatory Charter, 1725. There were 41 yeas and 31 nays. An abbreviated list of reports of committees on which Elisha Bisbee Served contains the following items: (Bisbee) appointed one of committee to accompany Governor on his trip to Castle, 1731. (Bisbee) empowered to eject unlawful settlers, 1731. (Elisha Bisbee was Excise Collector for Plymouth County, 1732 & 1734. (Elisha Bisbee) reported on act for settlement and distribution of estates and intestates, 1734. (Elisha Bisbee) submitted petition to allow land in center of Town of Pembroke for Indians to be taken over by the Town for benefit and aid of Indians. Ordered that Mr. Timothy Prout be appointed to committees of petition of East and West Precincts in Roxbury respecting a partition line between them; to be held in the room of Elisha Bisbey, Esq., one of said committee, who, through infirmity of body is rendered incapable of attending that service. 24 Nov. 1735. The following is from the records of Rehoboth, Mass., pages 212 and 213: "1st May 1719... Elisha Bisbee', all enter the ear marks of their creatures. Elisha Bisbee's ear mark was taken up by Thomas Aline." Also, "2d May 1719... Mathew Cushing enters the ear mark of his creatures. Mathew Cushing hath left fall the above ear mark and taken up Elisha Bisbee's earmark April 17, 1723. The record shows that in 1729, Mr. Bisbee was given leave of the General Court to go home for the recovery of health. The following letter was written to his wife in 1736: "My dear, "These with my love, come to let you know that I hope in about ten days to see you, God willing. As to my health, I can say but little about it, but I am such as I was. When the weather is very hot, I lie by and when the air is thick, I dare not go out, but I am as careful as I can. I have got on a stomach plaster again. I hope it is of some service. "I shall, I think, bring you some flax and cotton wool but they are very dear. Flax I cannot have under two shillings and five pence and take a good quantity. As to sheep's wool, don't neglect to go to John Little, Esq; claim his promise and tell him you must what you have occasion for etc. "Give my duty to my mother, my love to my children, sister, and all friends which, in haste, is all at present.
