| 2251 | From 1635 to 1803 Hingham, MA was located in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Suffolk County. The southerly boundary line between Hingham/Cohasset and Scituate/Norwell and beyond, is called the "patent line" in deeds. It was the early boundary between the two colonies - Mass Bay & Plymouth. Cohasset, formerly part of Hingham, elected to be part of the newly established Norfolk County in 1793. Hingham thought Dedham, the shire town of Norfolk County, was too far away! Norwell was part of old Scituate. -- Betty Meissner. | Leavitt, Joanna (I940)

| 2254 | From a memoir by Carl Blakeslee at the Union City, Pennsylvania Public Library, regarding property held at one time by James Grant: "This farm had previously been owned by the Shreve family. At one time it was owned by some of the Grants and earlier by a Bisbee family. Monroe Bisbee lived there shortly after the Civil War. He had gone through the Civil War completely without a scratch. He came home, went coon hunting, climbed a large tree to shake a coon out, stepped on a dead limb and fell and broke his neck. He is presently buried in the Shreve Ridge Cemetery and is a direct relative of the various Bisbees that are buried in this cemetery ..." --contributed by Kathi Wright. | Bisbee, Morrow Monroe (I63)

| 2260 | From Cathy French, Rochester, New York: "I recently came across a COPY of a letter written by Annis (Bisbee) Canfield. It was sent to me by the Livingston Co., NY Historian's office. Part of it refers to Nahum and Maria. "She writes, "Nahum was drafted in the War of 1812 and left home a short time after he married Maria Hallenbeck. His wife lived with us while he was away. He was brought home sick from Sackett's Harbor and nearly lost the sight of one eye." "She also goes on to say that her father Luther "worked for a long time in drawing cannons, powder and cannon balls to Sackett's Harbor." "In addition, I found a Naham Bisby in the Company: 10 Regt (Priors), NY Militia; rank induction, CPL; Rank discharge, Sgt. Ancestry Roll box 17; Microfilm Publication, M602. "I don't know if this is him OR if you list War of 1812 soldiers but I wanted the Bisbee Family site to have the information. You might wish to verify information if you do use it. "The letter is a treasure......even if not the original. It documents the move the Luther Bisbee family made from Albany area to Cayuga Co to the founding of "Bisbeetown" in Allegheny CO, NY-----Now Westview, Livingston Co, NY near Ossian and Nunda, NY." | Family: Nahum Bisbee / Maria Hallenbeck (F12071)

She was returning from a lecture on Paris Hill and drove into a shed to get out of the rain. The shed was too low for her to sit upon the seat as she drove in, and she seated herself in the bottom of the wagon, in front of the seat, having her umbrella in her hand. The horse was frightened and kicked, she receiving the blow in her head. She died instantly." | Benson, Charity (I1780)

| 2284 | From Jill Morton of Rockport, Maine, 2012. "I am not related to Walter, but I have been researching him and his family for some time now. He and his family lived in our community and donated to our town and schools very generously. One of the things he left behind in his will was a trust fund to our local school that has been very wisely managed and continues to benefit our school tremendously even now, 75 years after his death. I have been on a mission to research him for the purpose of having the school add a tribute/memorial of him in the school to show the appreciation for the wonderful gift he left us. I work for the school, and find it sad/disappointing that people do not know the origin of "The Bisbee Fund" and I would like to change that. "I have gathered quite a bit of info about Walter, but would welcome any info you could provide to me. I am especially interested in finding a photo of him....if you know of any resources where I could check for this I would greatly appreciate it." | Bisbee, Dr. Walter Frank (I6084)

| 2285 | From Madison County Civil War Soldiers Online: "LOOMIS, Edward 38 Hamilton Co. A, 176th NYSV d at Brashear City Hosp." Because of Morgan City's strategic marine location, the town of Brashear (Louisiana) played a prominent role in the war between the states. Brashear was occupied by Federal troops for over three years. It was in Morgan City that the Union troops planned the destruction of the Avery Island salt mines, the cutting off of Rebel supply lines from Texas, the capture of Texas to restore her to the Union, and the annihilation of all Confederate resistance in southwest Louisiana. The remains of Fort Starr (also known as Fort Brashear), a Union fort, are still visible. Near this site, now occupied by Atkinson Memorial Presbyterian Church, was the larger of two works erected to defend Morgan City, then Brashear City and a Federal military depot. On the night of June 22, 1863, 325 Confederates of Gen. A.A. Mouton's command landed their skiffs and flats at the rear of the town. Attacking the next day, they captured the garrison of 700 Federals and immense military stores, while suffering losses of only 3 killed, 18 wounded. | Loomis, Edward M. (I3084)

| 2286 | From Mark D. Stratton, NH grandson of Charles R. Harris & Bertha Lura Bisbee via email: Thomas was grandson of Peregrine White, born on the Mayflower. Most sources I've found have Hannah Hunt as Thomas' mother; Marshfield Mass. vitals list Daniel White marrying Hannah Hunt 19 Aug 1674, six years before Thomas was born. Some sites say Thomas m.2nd Rachel Horton; the Mayflower Society said it was started by desc. of another Thomas trying to claim relationship to Peregrine White. | White, Thomas (I827)

| 2297 | From probate of Gideon Morey: Albert never married. In the fall of 1862, his brother George announced he was "going to the war" and wanted Albert to go with him. Giddeon rejected the idea, saying that Albert had agreed to stay and take care of his parents in their old age. The record shows that Albert lived with and cared for his parents until their deaths, whereupon he claimed compensation from the estate. Some of his siblings contested his right to a larger portion of the estate. | Morey, Albert (I2228)
