| 2303 | From the records of the Second Church of Christ, Pembroke, the following: Thomas and John Oldham sailed from London, England in the ship "Elizabeth and Ann," May, 1636. Thomas Oldham married Mary Wetherill of Scituate, 20 Nov. 1656. The will of Thomas Bird of Scituate disposes of his house between John Bisbee's and Thomas Oldham's, 4 Feb. 1663. The so called unfortunate venture "The Land Bank of 1740" involved about 1252 men, as shown in the Massachusetts archives, documents such as registry returns, alphabetical lists of the subscribers and those who paid their assessments; also news letters of 15 Nov. 1744 and 2 Jan. 1745. It was a scheme to attempt to issue a currency based on real estate. The parties interested were numerous enough to control the state House of Representatives for several years; and the towns voted in may instances to take land bank notes for town rates. This all happened less than 20 years after the "South Sea Bubble" in England. John Bisbey Jr. and his brother Elisha, with about 1250 other citizens of Massachussets were partners in "The Land Bank of 1740." John Jr's. son Jonah was named administrator of his will in [1744]. | Bisbee, Deacon John Jr. (I812)
