Melia in Bucklin Banner December 15, 2004 "Ruth Evelyn Melia, 94, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Thursday evening, November 25, 2004 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Born on August 5, 1910 on a farm near Protection, Kansas, she was the daughter of C.C. "Mont" and Blanche L. (Denney) Towner. She was raised and received her education at Protection, graduating from Protection High School in 1928. She began her nurses' training at William Newton Memorial Hospital in 1935 and graduated as a registered nurse in 1938. In 1939 she moved to Chicago, Il., where she was employed until 1946 as a night supervisor at Chicago Lying in Hospital and took post graduate work before returning to William Newton Memorial Hospital. She was united in marriage to Eugene Melia in April of 1950 in Lexington, Ks. The couple lived in Douglas, Ks. for a few years where they worked at the meat locker. The couple moved to Johnstown, Colorado in 1955 and they operated a grocery/appliance store and meat locker. Mr. Melia preceded her in death in 1962. She returned to Winfield in 1962 and began employment at William Newton Memorial Hospital as a charge nurse on the 3-11 shift on second floor east until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield, where she was actively involved in the Pathbuilders class. Ruth also was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, where she received her 75 year pin, Rosetti Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star and Business Professional Womens' Organization and was named woman of the year in 1983. Her hobbies included quilting, cooking, church activities and traveling. Her family includes her nieces, Nephews, a sister-in law Pauline Lathen of Dodge City, and a host of great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceeded in death by her brothers, Clermont and John Glenn Towner. The funeral was held Saturday, December 4th at 9:30 am at the first Christian Church in winfield. Burial was in Bucklin Cemetery at 3:00 pm." | Towner, Ruth Evelyn (I25270)

She was born Aug. 29, 1904, in New Liskeard, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Sydney B. and Rose (Blackwell) Bisbee. She married Franklin Richard Jackson on June 26, 1926, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He preceded her in death in 1935. Survivors include: one son, F. Ralph (Donna) Jackson of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; two daughters, June (Dr. Grover) Seitzinger of Danville and Vivian J. Cherniak of Welland, Ontario, Canada; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Mrs. Jackson worked as a licensed practical nurse at Lakeview Hospital in Danville and was a house mother for sororities at the University of Illinois in Champaign, DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and Westland College in Bloomington, Ill. She was a member of AARP, the First Presbyterian Church in Danville, and the Rachel Circle of the church, the Library Club, and she was a volunteer at the Well Baby Clinic. She was interested in genealogy and she loved traveling. She journeyed to England to trace her ancestry. Per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at a later date. She was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Waterloo, daughter of Lloyd and Goldie McIntyre Bisbee. She married Marion Wedeking Dec. 7, 1941. They later divorced. She worked at Rath Packing Co. for many years and was founder of the new Cedar Valley Hospice House, Waterloo. Survived by: a daughter, Barbara Ann Wedeking of Davenport; and a brother, Gerald E. Bisbee of Dallas. Preceded in death by: two brothers, William Elaftman and David Bisbee; and a sister, Elizabeth Burdon. Services 10 am Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in the Garden of Memories, Waterloo. | 4917 | Obituary, Bisbee Family Connection, Vol 14, issue 2, p 3. SUSAN M. BISBEE LEIGH, 1915-2001 Lewiston -- Susan M. Bisbee Leigh, 86, passed from this veil of tears, Dec 1. She was born May 6, 1915, in Canton, the daughter of Eldon G. Bisbee and Cyrena O. Carter Bisbee. She spent her earliest years in Canton. The family later relocated to Auburn. She graduated from Edward Little Hight School in 1933 and entered the workforce. She worked as secretary for Rev. Ellis Holt of the Court Street Baptist Church for many years and later at Patrons Mutual Insurance Co. She met her life long companion, Joseph Leigh of Lewiston, around 1934, marrying on Jan. 5, 1935. Upon retirement, the couple traveled between Maine and Florida, but the passing of time and lure of grandchildren made them resettle full time in Maine. Their's was a long-lasting union, lasting some 65 years before Joseph's passing in April of 2000. One of her passions was that of a seamstress and knitter. Through the years, her skills brought joy and warmth to her family and friends, these articles today being passed from generation to generation. Her passion was not restricted to creation, but included the companionship of family and friends, long drives down a country lane and fried clams. Her immediate family, daughters, Nancy Leigh Bernard of Cumberland Center; and Kathryn Leigh Jacques of Clinton; son James of Wiscasset, survive her. Also surviving her are seven grandchildren, Deborah Susan Bernard Frame, Christopher Todd Bernard, Gretchen Leigh Bernard Quaticci, Melinda Sue Jacques Leighton, Wendy Lee Jacques, Jennifer Susan Ann Leigh Borg and Joshua Joseph Leigh; foru great grandchildren, Sara Christine Frame, Grace Elizabeth Quatticci, Natasha Sue Leighton and Erica Marie Leighton; siblings, Amasa E. In December 1963, in Redlands, California Louise married Ralph Bisbee. They made their home in Pomona, California where Louise worked as a physical therapist and massage therapist. In 1970, Louise and Ralph followed their dream and moved to Douglas County, Oregon. Their first home was in Roseburg, they then moved to Azalea, Riddle, Myrtle Creek for twenty years, and returned to Roseburg a year ago. Louise was a member of the Roseburg Artists Guild. She had a talent for art, writing poetry, cartooning, drawing pictures with India ink and painting with oil paints. Louise belonged to the Myrtle Creek Hospital Auxiliary, serving as a Pink Lady. Her artwork was on display when the hospital first opened its doors. Louise was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Roseburg and in Myrtle Creek. Previously, she worked for the Northern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists as the Private Secretary to J. Walter Rich, President of the American Temperance Society. Louise enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, keeping her mind active so she could write her poetry. She was a lady with strong convictions and principles. She was a lady devoted to her husband and a loving mother and grandmother. Louise is survived by; her husband, Ralph Bisbee of Roseburg; daughter Nancy Turk and husband, Bill of Houston, Texas; son, Mark Rice and wife, Teddy of Fortine, Montana; stepson, Robin Bisbee of Roseburg; granddaughter, Theodora Turk of Eugene, Oregon and step-granddaughter, Melody Trip of Mason, Texas and brother, Harrison Thornburg of Needles, California. Myrtle Creek is where he spent the bulk of his time in the local area. Ralph was retired from General Dynamics and then he was a Jack of all trades but did a lot of locksmith and leather work. Ralph never met a stranger and loved everyone. He always wanted to be a Forest Ranger but working as Fire Watch for Roseburg Lumber was as close as he got. Whatever he did he just wanted to be useful. His first wife, Meta preceded him in death. He was married to Louise Rice on December 6, 1963, in Redlands, California, and she passed away on December 27, 2002. Surviving are two sons, Rob Bisbee of Roseburg; Mark and his wife, Teddy Rice of Fortine, Montana; one daughter, Nancy and her husband, William Turk of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Mary Manuel of Haines, Alaska; Ollie Bisbee of Everett, Washington; and Barbara Bradford of Temecula, California; one granddaughter, Theodora Turk of Eugene; three nieces and one nephew.
