Sophia's cemetery record lists her as wife of Joel Kibbe and daughter of Reuben Bisbe (note the single 'e' in the spelling). Their first son was named Jared Ebenezer Cushman Green Kibbe--Sophia's maternal grandfather was Ebenezer Cushman of Kingston, Massachusetts. Jared E.C.G. Kibbe named one of his own sons Emmett Bisbee Kibbe. The names, and the fact that "Sophia Kibbe" was remembered in her father's last will and testament, suggest that Joel and Sophia maintained a close relationship with her parents after they married and moved from Lebanon to Cortland County.

"It is this Joel Kibbe whose marriage is recorded in December 1824, in Lebanon, Madison County, New York, to Sophia Buysby, the Reverand Thomas Jeril, officiating. She was born in Massachusetts circa 1798.... The name Buysby, was really, Bisbie or Bisbee....It seems probable that Sophia was the daughter of Reuben and Lydia (Cushman) Bisbie."
