    • The 1790 US Census for Massachusetts lists, "Samuel Bisbee, Stoughton, Suffolk County, 4 m. and 3 fem.

      The records of soldiers and sailors of the Revolutionary War from Massachusetts lists, "Samuel Bisby, Private, Capt. Theophilus Lyon's Co., Lieut. Col. Samuel Pierce's Regiment; enlisted 3-1-1778; discharged 4-5-1778. Service 36 days at Castle Island."

      Samuel was in the Battle of Long Island and also White Plains. He was in Capt. macy Williams' Co. at Germantown and served to the close of the war.

      Regarding the duel between General Poor and Major Porter, the following is reported: " (Mass. Historical Society, march 1882, page 259) "Samuel Bisbee, who died in 1845, aged 88 yrs., a man of truth and accuracy (See N. E. Hist. and Gen. Register, Jan. 1850, Vol. 4, page 100) though he did not enlist under Porter, having been earlier in the service, was in the same regiment at the time of the duel and assured the writer that he himself heard the report of the pistol shortly after daybreak. Major Porter an ex-preacher, challenged a superior officer and killed him in a duel."

      From Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files, "Samuel, S34031, Cont Line (MA), appl 4 May 1818 Plymouth Cty MA aged 60 a res of Easton in Bristol Cty MA, in 1820 sol was aged 63 with wife Jerusha aged 68 & a daughter Nancy aged 25."
