    • Last Will and Testament of Nathaniel Jackson III of Middleborough

      "Know all men by these presents that I NATHANIEL JACKSON of Middleborough in the county of Plymouth in New England, being at this present time labouring under many bodily infirmities, yet of a sound & disposing memory and understanding, blessed be God for the same, and being sensible of my own mortality, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this to be my last will & testament to remain firm & involable forever.

      "Imprimis. It is my will that all my just debts & funeral charges be paid out of my estate by my executor hereafter named in convenient time after my decease.

      "Item. I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife PATIENCE JACKSON, all my estate both real and personal both indoor and outdoor, accepting to each & every child six shillings as hereafter expressed, viz.
      "To my son SAMUEL I give and bequeath six shillings as above mentioned, to be paid by my executor within or at the expiration of one year after my decease. --
      "Item. I give unto my daughter EUNICE HOUSE six shillings to be paid by my executor at the end of one year after my decease. --
      "Item. I give to my son NATHANIEL JACKSON six shillings, to be paid by my executor at the end of one year after my decease. --
      "Item. I give to my son WILLIAM JACKSON six shillings, to be paid at the end of one year after my decease. --
      "Item. I give unto my son JOSEPH JACKSON six shillings to, be paid to him by my executor at the end of one year after my decease.
      "Item. I give to my son BARNABAS JACKSON six shillings, to be paid to him by my executor at the end of one year after my decease. --

      "Lastly, my will is that my loving & welbeloved wife PATIENCE JACKSON shall be my executor of this my last will & testament. Thus hoping this my last will will be kept & performed according to the true intent & meaning thereof. I commit my body to the dust, and my soul to God that gave it. --
      "In witness whereof I the said NATHANIEL JACKSON have hereunto set my hand & seal this ninth day of June 1768. -- Signed, sealed, & published & declared to be Nathaniel Jackson //seal// his last will & testament in presence of us EBENEZER HINDS, SAMUEL ROBINS, JOHN MILLER.

      A performance bond in the amount of £150 is given by:
      PATIENCE JACKSON, widow of Middleborough;
      JOHN MILLER, yoeman of Middleborough; and
      CONSIDER COLE, innkeeper of Plympton.
