      CHELSEA -- Stanley S. Bisbee, 80, of Hallowell Road died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta on Aug. 1, 1924, a son of the late Edwin J. and Carolyn A. (Damon) Bisbee. Mr. Bisbee was a graduate of Winthrop High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from 1943 until 1946 and receiving a Purple Heart for wounds in battle. He had been employed by the state Department of Transportation as a mechanic and, later, a foreman for 26 years. Following his retirement, he worked for several years at KeyBank as a courier. Mr. Bisbee was a member of the Winthrop American Legion, Augusta Elks Lodge, Gardiner Eagles Club and the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. He was an inductee of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame and was instrumental in the construction of the horseshoe pits in the Piggery in Augusta. Among his other interests were softball, bowling and golf. He was predeceased by his parents; his stepfather, Clyde "Pops" Hewett; two daughters, Theresa Kirkpatrick and Cynthia L. Bisbee; and a sister, Nellie Ida Ellis. Mr. Bisbee is survived by his wife of 39 years, June (Witham) Bisbee of Chelsea; a son, Keith Bisbee of West Gardiner; a daughter, Carol Ouellette of Augusta; a brother, William Hewett and his wife, Carlene, of Readfield; a son- in-law, Gordon Kirkpatrick of Winthrop; his first wife, Evelyn (Borghs) Tardiff of Waterville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours are 4-7 p.m. Friday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta at a later date.
