  • Notes
    • Benjamin enlisted for service in the French and Indian War, from West Bridgewater in the spring of 1755 and died of a wound from a poisoned bullet at Fort George. He died the same day he was wounded and was buried near a tree marked with his initials by a friend, Packard, of North Bridgewater.

His nephew, Benjamin, was named for him in accordance with his uncle Benjamin's request before his death.

In the Battle which resulted in the death of Benjamin Bisbee, the principal English forces were under the command of Gen. Sir William Johnson and Gen. Lyman of Connecticut. Gen. Dieskau, the French commander, was utterly defeated, wounded and taken prisoner. "Following the defeat of Gen. Braddock, this victory at Lake George was hailed with great joy as an offset to Braddock's defeat and revived the drooping spirits of the people." Benjamin Bisbee fell "at the crisis of a nation's peril." His name is mentioned in a communication by Ellis Ames, Esq., of Canton, Mass., to the Old Colony Memorial. [4]
