Certificate of Marriage: "This certifies that on the 18th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five Leroy Bisbee, Lebanon, New York, and Martha Soul, Otselic, New York, were by me united in marriage, at Norwich, according to the laws of the state of New York. /s/ Sam Scoville, Pastor of Congregational Church. (Witness) Fannie K. Hughson."
In an affidavit, Rev. Scoville, resident of Stamford, Connecticut, states, "that at the time there was no public records kept in said town of Norwich, of the marriage of persons who were not members of the Church of which the officiating clergyman was pastor, so no public record was made of this marriage, but a certificate was given of which a certified copy is to be hereto annexed." |
