Probably published in Lebanon, Madison County, New York. Obtained in 1998 from Leona Marie Coye, 344 Reese Rd., Earlville, New York. "Elisha Bisbe, aged 66 years, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Eugene Niles, in this place on Friday, July 18. Mr. Bisbe was born in Lebanon, but for many years has been a resident of Smyrna. He was an old soldier, serving in the 157th Regt., N.Y. Vol., and was highly respected. Members of the G. A. R. from Earville and Smyrna attended the funeral Monday. He leaves one daughter, one sister, and two brother (sic)." There is an error in the date of death. July 18th is, in fact, a Saturday. If he died on a Friday, then the date is the 17th and is consistent with the probate records. Curiously, Elisha's Civil War records have his date of death as 19 July 1908. |
