Mabel Alice, born Oct 21, 1901, third child of Newt and Grace Melia, and born in the old farm house on the farm. Mabel was an extremely pretty girl, and completed grade school at Fonda, graduated with class of 1921 in Bucklin, and attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, where she received her teaching degree, and was a member of the famed Bethany College Choir which continues to this day to perform the Messiah at Christmas and Easter for thongs of people.
Mabel taught at several rural schools including Daisy Dell and North Star. She worked at the Bucklin Post Office for about 5 years. She was married for a very short period, and the marriage was subsequently anulled. In 1946, she formed a partneship with her Father, Newt, and her brother Elmer and bought the only dress shop in Bucklin and was in business there for 4 years, before selling the shop in 1950 and moving to Denver, Colorado, where she spent 25 years working in the foundation departments of the May Company and Joslins. She later managed those departments in The May Company.
In 1975, she returned to Bucklin and lived out her years there.
