  • Notes 
    • Otis Bisbee left Union College in 1849 to become a teacher in Collegiate School where he was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1851. In 1867 he founded the Riverside Military Academy in Poughkeepsie, NY. Major Joseph Bartlett Bisbee was also a teacher and his first school was on College Hill. The building was modeled after the Parthenon and was built in 1836. Major Bisbee succeeded his father, Otis, as director. Otis Bisbee was the author of "Practical Education of Boys," published in 1868. [3]

      Otis Bisbee, Principal of the Riverview Military Academy, at Poughkeepsie, and for many years a well-known teacher, died suddenly of apoplexy yesterday afternoon.
