- Lewis Bisbee enlisted as a private in Co. I, 16th Maine Vol. Infantry. He was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant 16 Aug. 1862 and a Captain 1 Dec. 1863. He was in the battles of Fredericksburg and Gettysburg and was held in Libby and other Confederate prisons for 20 months. Capt. Bisbee was discharged June 5, 1865.
He was a carpenter and moved to Minneapolis, Minn. where he became a contractor and builder and build many of the largest homes in the city. Lewis Bisbee was a Baptist and a Free Mason and was known as "Captain Bisbee."
