• Notes

  John Bisbee was 17 years old when his father and entire family moved from Bridgewater, mass. to Sumner, Maine and settled. Later he moved to a farm on his own in Sumner between the two Labrador Ponds where he remained for 48 1/2 years. He was both a farmer and blacksmith and known as "Uncle Johnny." He was not careful about his personal appearance; was a great bear and fox hunter. John Bisbee's farm was located near Black Mountain, between Labrador Ponds. There is a small family cemetery on the old homestead in which are buried John Bisbee's wife Sarah, his son Jones and others of the immediate family. John d. "Aged 89 yrs." Grave record: "In memory of Mr. John Bisbee who died 9-18-1839 [Aet. 89 yrs.]. He lived with Sarah, his consort, 48 1/2 yrs. in one place." Burial was in the family cemetery on his old homestead, between the two Labrador Ponds, Sumner, Maine. [3]
