- Berta/Bertha’s parents were both from Switzerland and that she married Robert Stephen Bisby at the young age of 14 (he was 22 years old) and had her first child, Mildred at the age of 15. Mildred lived to the age of 8 and then sometime during the period of her eighth year she was tragically burned to death when she ran out of her house and her clothes caught fire as she knocked over an oil lantern sitting on her front porch. There were two more children both of whom died in infancy and then her fourth child, my grandfather, Harold Robert Bisby, was born. Berta and Robert were then divorced. Robert remarried someone, first name, Mary.
