    • Although Frank Jones Bisbee has his death in 1909, Anna Weitzman, a researcher working for the Smithsonian Institute Archives, informs us via email that their records show A. M. Bisbee died in 1901. She also cites a letter to the Smithsonian, dated Nov. 27, 1902, from W. F. Tayler, Acting Coast Inspector, Shanghai: "In ref. to public'ns supplied to this office, addressed to A. M. Bisbee, attention is drawn to the fact that Captain A. M. Bisbee died last year. The undersigned has taken Capt. Bisbee's place as coast inspector & would be grateful to S.I. if it would continue the supply of pub's & would address them to me."

    • Various records show the following: A. M. Bisbee, customs clerk res. 733 Wharton St., Philadelphia, Pa., 1872. Aelius M. Bisbee, inspector, res. 735 Wharton St., Phila., Pa., 1874-1886. Catherine W. Bisbee, widow, as above. A. M. Bisbee, mariner, res. 2327 Brown St., Phila., Pa., 1890.

      Aelius d. "Aged 68 yrs." at Shanghai, China. He was cremated and his ashes buried in the family lot in Plympton, Mass. The large family monument in Plympton with marker "A. M. B." has an inscription as follows: "Capt. Aelius Marcellus Bisbee died in Shanghai, China 7 Sept. 1909 in his [60th year]. Late Harbor Master and Inspector at Shanghai. He served in the Imperial Maritime Custom Service for over 20 years." [3]
