    • We know from the record that Joseph C. Bisbee was father of T. J. Bisbee; however, It is not clear that Sally Ann Morey was his mother.

In 1848, T. J. married Caroline Maxfield at her father's home in "Log City" (Eaton), in Madison County, New York, by Elder Putnam. During the Civil War, he served as a cook with Company D, 114th New York Volunteer Infantry.

Records of the First Congregational Church of Lebanon, Madison County, New York, p. 172: "The sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered. Thaddeus Bisbee, Caroline Bisbee, Mary Richardson, and Charlotte Maxfield receive the ordinance of Baptism and together with Sylvia Ann Seeley entered into covenant with the Church."

Also, p. 181: Apr. 27, 1878, "In the matter of non-resident members, the following persons have experienced a desire to be considered as walking in fellowship with the Church.... Mr. and Mrs. Thadius Bisbe." Also, "Voted Charlotte Maxfield's name be dropped from the record."

Also, "Thaddeus Bisbee, Caroline Bisbee dismissed Jan 10, 1880. Charlotte Maxfield excommunicated."

      T. J. and his son Willis homesteaded near Franklin, Franklin, Nebraska. After a minimal period of time, they sold their properties for good profit. Thaddeus and Caroline moved into the village of Franklin, where T. J. operated a meat market (History of City of Franklin, 1976, 2nd pub 1983, Service Press, Henderson, Neb.), and ran a hotel (1885 Census). Caroline became an active real estate investor.

The following quotes are from affidavits found in T. J. Bisbee's Civil War Pension File:

"Our name is spelt Bisbe (and) if it is spelt any other way it is the falt of the riter." -Harvey T. Bisbee, 1894.

"The name "Bisbe" is often spelled and written Bisbee ending with ee, but Bisbe is undoubtedly the correct way of spelling the name, as I find it so written by said Thaddeus J. Bisbe in his own hand writing in our family record in our family Bible, and also written on other occasions and places such as legal papers which are now before me at this writing; and the name is spelled "Bisbe" in his Discharge from the U.S. Army dated June 18th, 1865, which is also now before me. I do not remember of ever seeing Thaddeus J. Bisbe write his surname Bisbee, although we lived together, being husband and wife for forty-five years." -Caroline M. Bisbee, 1895

Widow's Application For Accrued Pension (filed after Thaddeus' death), states that Caroline Mariah Maxfield was married to Thaddeus J. Bisby on 7 Oct 1848 at Log City (Village of Eaton) in New York. In a separate affidavit, one James H. Brannon states, "I was well acquainted with claimant Caroline M. Bisbee and her late husband Thadeus J. Bisbe. I was at their home at Log City, in the State of New York, in October1848, and her father, Ichobar Maxfield, told me that said Caroline M. Bisbee (formerly Maxfield) and Thadeus J. Bisbe were married just a few days before I was there to visit, on the 7th day of October A.D. 1848, by Elder Putnam..."
