    • Oliver Cromwell Smith enlisted from Warsaw, NY in the 9th New York Cavalry for the Civil War. On furlough he married Frances Bisbee, daughter of Benjamin Bisbee. On a scouting action to collect horses and food for the army, he was captured in the Shenandoah Valley near Winchester, VA. He spent 19 months in Libby Prison. He developed a heart condition that caused his death at age 59 years. As a builder in Fremont, NE, he built many buildings including the Post Office. After the depression of 1892, he removed his family to Omaha, NE.
