  • Notes 
    • Elijah Bisbee was a highway surveyor and Constable of Pembroke from 1725 to 1730; also one of a committee to select a site for the Congregational Church on Drink River Road, Hanover, Mass.[A]

      An order passed by the General Court of Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1st session in 1736, states, "Empowering the town of Pembroke to survey and lay out 500 acres of land for a school in answer to a petition by [Elijah Bisby Esq.] in behalf of Pembroke. (Massachusetts House of Rep Records, Great and General Court.) The foregoing petition was presented by Elisha Bisbee 3d.[A]

      On 21 Dec 1743, Elijah Bisbe Jr., administrator of his father's estate, certifies to a probate judge an inventory of the estate completed the previous day in Plympton. The value of the estate was estimated at more than 506 pounds and included the following items: cash, wearing apparel, books and spectacles; armes, ammunition and razor; alley and homestead with building and fences; wood lot and cedar swamp; negro wench; horses and tackle; cattle and swines; grains and footstuffs; and various furniture, housewares, farm implements and tools.[B]

      Also on 21 December, 1743, Elijah's minor sons, Joseph and Benjamin, were placed under the guardianship of one Joshua Pearce of Pembroke, probably a relative of their mother.[C]

      On 27 Feb. 1748/9, older brother Reuben was appointed guardian for Joseph and Benjamin.[D]

      On 17 Dec. 1754, Reuben certifies that he has settled all accounts with Joshua Pearce, and has collected from him Joseph's and Benjamin's inheritance, amounting to "forty-five pounds seven shillings and six pence in cash, and also one bond from Elijah Bisbee (Jr.) he dated the sixth day of March anno domini 1744/5 conditioned for the payment of 137 pounds 7 shillings & 5 pense in good bills of the old tenner."[E]
