| Text | "Son On the Seas, Mother Dead. Mrs. J. W. Sauerwine Passed Away Sunday--Son With Troops Now Enroute to France. "The death of Mrs. J. W. Sauerwine occurred at the family home at 532 Buffalo street at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning. Mrs. Sauerwine was stricken a week ago with paralysis and dradually grew worse. A second stroke was suffered on Saturday. She was a life-long resident of this city, a daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Mathew Atwater, now both deceased. She was forty years of age. "Besides the husband, Mrs. Sauerwine is survived by two sons and two daughters, Walter, Miss Ruth and Miss Lillian, living at home, and Charles, who is in the army service and is now thought to be enroute to France. Also surviving are three brothers, Mathew, Charles and William Atwater, a half-sister, Mrs. Melina Comer, and a half-brother, Vernon Bisbee. "Funeral services will be held from the late home at 4:00 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. Friends are invited to call from one to three. Rev. A. E. (?Kamy?), pastor of the Christian church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the East Conneaut cemetery." Handwritten note by Carol Giannelli: "my Gmother Hattie Atwater Sauerwine. "The son they refer to is my father Charles. He was only 15 yrs old when his mother died. No one knows of him being in the Army. Unless he lied (about) his age and was sent back home. We don't know if this is true. A real mystery." | |
