On 24 March, 1886, C. B. Bisbee and Mrs. C. F. Bisbee (Cheney & Calista) sign affidavit stating that, "they were well and personally acquainted with John W. Reynolds late of the Town of Smyrna, Chenango County and State of New York and who was married to and first husband of the present widow of Erastus D. reynolds and that they do personally know that the said John W. Reynolds did die at Smyrna, Chenango County, New York on the second day of January, A.D. 1866..."
