  • Notes 
    • In a book titled, "Names and Sketches of the Pioneer Settlers of Madison County, New York," by William H. Tuttle (page 24), Tuttle lists "brothers" Joseph and Reuben Bisby as delegates to the Whig County Committee in 1834 and states they settled in Lebanon in 1815. Reuben was also said to have been a witness in County Court in 1816 (this may actually have been his father).

      It appears from the record that Reuben Bisbee and his family moved away from Madison County after 1834 (when Reuben was a delegate to the Whig Party's County Committee.) In 1840 they were living in Wirt Township, Allegany County, New York. By 1846 they were in or near Union City, Erie County, Pennsylvania, where their son, Sylvester Sylvanus, was born. According to History of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, (Chicago, Warner, Beers & Co., 1885, p. 791), Reuben and his family moved onto their farm in Bloomfield Township, Crawford County, in 1849.
